Long Byres Cottages are situated on 120 acre working hill farm which lies along the River Gelt. Hares, badgers and red squirrels share the farm with a herd of Exmoor Ponies and various other farm animals. There are good walks over the North Pennine Fells.
Hadrians Wall at its closest point is 5 miles from the cottages and Ullswater, the nearest of the Lake District lakes is less than 25 miles away. Gretna Green on the Scottish Border is 11miles and easily accessible.
There are a few good pubs close by and 2 award winning restaurants within 10 miles. The Market town of Brampton is ideal for shopping and it is also worth visiting Carlisle, the Great Border City where you can visit the castle, cathedral and shopping centre.
